Washington's diaries mention the seven sons of Honoria Grimes Crawford Stephenson, calling her "St'nson" or something like that.Geo. W. visited the widow St'nson after the deaths of their spouses.Washington was unable to beat her big sons in wrestling. Two were Crawfords, five were Stephensons. All served under him in the Revolutionary War.Another rumor I have read is that the Scottish rebel Wallace was a hero for liberating Scotland and may have been rewarded with offers from many grateful maidens to father their children. Some of the Crawfords descend from Wallace the Rebel, known as Braveheart in the film with Mel Gibson.
