Thank you. That's very interesting. If at some point the family came from the Low Countries, they might have been involved with weaving since quite a few Flemish came over to England in that capacity(late 1400's or 1500's). However, weaving was a rather profitable trade so our ancestor may not have had that skill. I agree with you that most Americans descend from people who came out of desperation and for our forebears people with a skill or craft were pretty high class.
