STEVENS/STEPHENS: Caroline or Spotsylvania Cos, VA?
To all Stevens / Stephens / Stevans researchers,
If you are researching any Stevens (or any variant of the surname Stevens) who has a connection to either Caroline or Spotsylvania--or any of the surrounding counties--in VA, kindly contact me.I have information to share on my own lines, on related and collateral lines, and would like to fill-in many pieces of the Stevens family puzzle.
My first now Stevens in the Colonies was probably located in Gloucester Co., VA.His line spread out to Essex county and surrounding areas, and then into Caroline and Spotyslvania counties. The first proven ancestor is (Maj.) Joseph Stevens / Stephens, who lived in Essex and caroline counties. He d. in1766.His son, Capt Richard Stevens inherited, as the eldest son.
Capt. Richard Stevens, d. VA, 1808, left two families of children.
Of his first family, there were known to have been four sons and possibly at least one or two daughters:Joseph, Charles, Thomas, and John.Daughters were possible: 'Starling'?' Ann'?
Of his second family--from which I descend--he left at least nine children:Lucy, Lewis B., Robert C.,Mary C. (aka 'Polly'), Judith ('Ann'), Richard, Hiram/Hyram, and Horace C.He may also have left a daughter by this marriage to Mary Beverley (Carter) Stevens, by the name of 'Ann.'
Richard and Mary's eldest son, Lewis B. Stevens, married Ann 'Nancy' Tyler. Lewis and Nancy are my ancestors. They had at least five children.
I would very much like to connect with descendants of Richard and Mary's other children.
I believe that Horace C. Stevens--who is known to have lived in Caroline Co., VA-- had at least one son, and possibly at least two daughters with his first wife, Maria Chandler.I do not know if Horace had any children with his second wife, Elizabeth Thornton.
It is also possible that Lewis and Horace's other brothers may also have had children.Robert C Stevens is town living in Caroline Co., VA in the 1830 Census.I do not find any record of a family for him.I do not find any record of their brother, Richard, having had a family, though I do find a much younger man, named Richard L. Stevens, living with Horace in the mid-1800s.
Does anyone see any links to this family?I have Stevens DNA info, Will info, Slave info, and much more.My one of this family left VA, and moved to St. Louis Co., MO, in the 1830s.Contact me if you see a possible link.
