Re: STEWARTS from IRELAND to USA
Thanks for your letter!! I laughed at your comment about"doesn't want to know where
they came from". Anyhow, I suspect that my
Stewarts came down from Tenn. to Miss.in the
early 1820's to settle to get cheap land. My
gr-gf. William was b. in Miss. in 1823, and
his brother Calvin there in 1825. Mother named Margaret?Peggy b.1789. Sometime after
1824, the unknown father died, rumor of yellow fever, of which there WERE 2 or 3 epidemics. The widow was left with 10 children, and moved to (or back to) Lincoln
Co. Tenn. by 1830 near Fayetteville. I don't
know where they lived in Miss. Opened up areas of settlement in 1822 time are suspect.
If it is like Okla, where I live whites of
course could have lived in (Indian) areas
long before they opened up. Possible name for
father could be Calvin, Wm., James, not sure.
Thanks for your help!!!!
