Thanks, Linda
Since my last message, I've found out a few more things.
Edward Steele was a wagon maker and later wagon broker in northern Pittsburgh and Sharpsburg. I have located him in the 1910, 1900, 1880, 1870, and 1860 census records. In the 1870 and 1860 censuses, he was living at home with his father, Frederick Steel, his mother Francis, and as many as 7 siblings. The spellings are as they appear in the census records, but the family name was Stiehl. In a region with such a large Germanic population, I am surprised that the German spelling of the name was not used, but I suspect that the census taker just wrote what he heard.
In the 1860 census, Frederick was listed as a "Finisher in Arsenal". I know from other reports that there was an Arsenal in Sharpsburg at one time.
I do have addresses in the area where they lived, if that would be useful in locating information about them.
If there is any other information that I can provide to help identify my family, please don't hestiate to ask.
