The latest research on this subject, I believe, is available from The North Star Press of St. Cloud, Minnesota. Author John Koblas has written a painstakingly researched and well-reviewed book that offers ample evidence of Bill Stiles' involvement with the James gang and his harrowing escape from the Northfield, MN raid. Stiles was believed to have been killed in the botched robbery attempt; however, this book posits that Bill Chadwell was actually the unlucky one. Well into his 80's, and still hiding out in Los Angeles, Stiles revealed his true identity in 1931 amidst considerable controversy. He died in 1939 at the age of 89.
