Max Stinglhammer, proprietor of the Sauk City Bridge on the Wisconsin river, Sauk City ; was born in Landau, on der Isar, Bavaria, Germany, Oct. 6, 1824; in his native country, he learned the mason's trade, and followed it several years; in 1847, be came to the United States, located in Milwaukee, Wis., where he remained until 1850, when he came to Sauk City and engaged in the Mercantile business for about two years, and afterward built a brewery, and engaged in brewing until the fall of 1865; in 1866, be purchased the Sauk City Bridge, of which he is now sole proprietor; maiden name of his wife was Anna Barbara Gohanni; they were married in Sauk City; she was born in Gennino, Switzerland. Mr. Stinglhammer is a Republican in politics, and has acted with that party since its organization, being, at its birth in Madison. He has been a member of the Board of Supervisors three years, Village Trustee two years, United States water-gauge keeper three years. He takes an active part in public affairs, and is very popular
