Helene Stobbe (Oyen) was my grandmother
I called her Omi Oyen, because her married name was Oyen - and her maiden name was Stobbe - which I didn't know until recently. Having been estranged from my family, I only recently found out that she died sometime in the last few years (2005-2008?), I am unsure of the exact date. I do know that she died in Germany, where she lived all of her life. That is, unless the current boundaries, as we now know them, changed. And unless she moved since she was young. I only know that for about the last 30-40 years she lived in Essen, Germany - that is, since I have been alive. Her husband, whom no one really spoke of, and I only know was an "Oyen", died in the war. Having lost his leg, he was on a medical ship returning home when it was bombed, and sank - and he was unable to swim, and he died. Upon his death, she discontinued contact with the Oyen family. She also had a daughter (my aunt) named Ruth, who also died in the last few years. I believe she had MS, but I am unsure if she died from this disease. I also have a cousin, Bettina. Everyone I have mentioned, to the best of my knowledge, lived in Essen, Germany - except my father, and myself. My father - born: Alfred Oyen on 12/10/1938 married my mother - born: Doris Kopyciok on 07/05/1947 on 04/04/1966 in Germany before emigrating to Canada. I am first generation Canadian. I was born 09/20/1974.
I am interested in any information anyone could provide me. Does anyone know whom my grandmother might have married? Who was my greatgrandmother? Etc. I would appreciate anything!
