I haven't read this entire post yet but I will.
A thought occurred to me that I don't recall ever been suggested. What if Penelope was *not* married before marrying Richard? What if she came here with her father, not her husband--and what if she was a girl and not a woman? That would great simplify (and perhaps explain) a great deal of this.
Something else that I broached sometime ago here: Has there been a concerted effort to have a matrilineal descendant of Penelope's test their mtDNA? It's possible that a clue could be found there. I have a list of such descendants at the following page in hopes I can find someone.
