Henry Frank Marshall & Sarah Jane Wilkins
Seeking Descendants of Henry Frank Marshall (1868-1922) and Sarah (Sadie) Jane Wilkins (1876-1944).I hope to connect with descendants of this couple in order to complete the story of the family of Marshall’s parents, William Kelker Marshall (1829-1911) and Anna Mary Rumbarger (1838-1924) of Reynoldsville, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania.Information I have at present:Henry Frank (Franklin) Marshall was born in Jefferson County PA, near Reynoldsville, on Christmas Day, 1867.His father and his maternal grandfather, John Rumbarger (1810-1889) were lumbermen in what still were the virgin forests of Pennsylvania. As a young man, Henry (Frank) went to West Virginia to live and work with his uncle, Jacob Leathers Rumbarger in Rumbarger’s lumbering business in and around Dobbin, Grant County, WV.There he met Sarah Jane Wilkins, daughter of Joseph Henry Wilkins and Irena Strawderman of Hardy County.Among Sarah’s siblings were Angus Mackey Wilkins and two other children, one of whom died before the 1900 census was taken. Her maternal grandparents were Nimrod Strawderman and Mary Ann (Polly) Fitzwater. They were married in Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland, on 23 January 1893.The 1900 census shows them living in Garrett County MD.By 1910, the family had moved to Skamania County, Washington.
Children listed in the 1900 Census Record:Eugene M. Marshall (born April 1895 in MD); Eva I. Marshall (born April 1897 in MD); Edna N. Marshall (born July 1899 in MD); and the record indicates, also, that a fourth child had been born to the couple, but had died before 1900.Children listed in the 1910 Census Record:Eugene and Eva—Edna is not listed; Forrest Marshall (born about 1902 in MD); Bertha Marshall (born about 1906 in MD); and Leslie Marshall (born in 1909 or 1910 in Oregon). This 1910 record indicates that six children had been born to Sarah Wilkins Marshall, and that five are living.Children listed in the 1920 Census Record:Eugene F., Eva I., Forest H., Bertha V. and Leslie R.; Walter G. Marshall (born about 1912 in WA); and Edith A. Marshall (born about 1915 in WA).Henry Frank Marshall died in 1922.The 1930 Census Record shows Forest H., Leslie R., Walter G. and Aleen (apparently Edith A. Marshall) living with their mother.Marshall was a farmer and kept apple orchards. He died tragically on 9 November 1922 and was buried in the Old Carson Cemetery, Skamania County WA.Sarah lived until 13 October 1944, and lies buried beside him.
