David, I am a Stroebel descendant, too, and I have roots in the village of Habsthal, as well as in many neighboring villages. My immigrant ancestor was great-grandfather Johann Bachmann, born in the village of Einhart -- a stone's throw from Habsthal. His maternal grandmother was Anna Maria Stroebel, born in Baerenthal. She came to live with her son, Dominick Maier/Mayer, a priest in Magenbuch, also next door to Einhart, and died there.Another one of her sons was a priest in Habsthal -- Lorenz Maier.Perhaps he was your ancestors' priest? Anna Maria was married to a relatively well-known organ builder, my third great-grandfather Johann Georg Maier. My other family names in the area are Waltenspiel, Gruber, Beck (Bek), Enzenmiller, Scholter, to name a few. I would love to hear from you and exchange information. Ron Bachman (we lost the final double nn in America).
