Microfilm #432-762, Page 288b Lower Towamensing Twp, Carbon County, PA Enumerated on 26 August 1850 by Robt Butler
Despite the creative spelling, this must be the Nicholas D Strohl family in the 1850 census:
26 125 130 Stroal Nicholas D 51 M Farmer $800 PA (read/write) 27 Stroal Barbara 50 F PA 28 Stroal John 22 M Farmer PA 29 Stroal James 17 M Farmer PA (Married < 1 yr) (school) 30 Daniel Ellen 26 F PA 31 Daniel Solomon 28 M Miller PA 32 Stroal Lavina 19 F PA (school) 33 Stroal Matilda 14 F PA 34 Stroal Eliza 11 F PA (school) 35 Stroal Mary Ann 9 F PA 36 Stroal Allen 6 M PA
37 126 131 Shipe, Israel(?)22 M Boatman PA (read/write) 38 Shipe, Sally 24 F PA 39 Daniel, John 4 M PA 40 (?), James 1 M PA 41 Boyer, Polly 29 F PA (read/write) 42 (?), Harrison 5 M PA
Ellen is married to Solomon Daniel and living at home.I included the next household, the Shipe family because Mrs. Shipe (Sally) is the right age to be Sally Strohl, and at least one of Ellen's kids appears to be living there, 4-year-old John Daniel.(Too bad the enumerator didn't give the last name of 1-year-old James and 5-year-old Harrison.)
Also living with the Shipes is Polly Boyer, possibly a first cousin to Barbara Lenhart (Mrs. Strohl).
17-year-old James is married less than a year, but who is his wife?(Did the enumerator mark the wrong line?)
Why wasn't 14-year-old Matilda in school when 19-year-old Lavina was?(Did the enumerator mark the wrong line?)
