Re: SUBER VERSES SUBERS
I believe that you are correct about the origin of the Suber/Zuber/Subers line which settled originally in Bucks County PA and Newberry, SC. Clearly the family is from Germany and lived about 20 miles south of Heidelberg. The spelling of the surname was indeed Zuber. The later variations are the result of anglicized spelling variations of the German Zuber.Colonial records use all three spelling for the same family in PA.I would suspect that family members adobted spellings they were confortable with.Craig may be correct also. The spelling derivations of the surname may have resulted from disagreements or attempts to differentiate one branch from another.
However, I am most interested in your european research and the documentation of the Zuber family members there including the one who attended university at Heidelberg. Can you send me further [email protected]
