Bauman/Bowman PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi,
I hope someone takes the time to read this and might have just one lead. I REALLY need HELP !!!!!!!
I am trying to find ANY information on George Bauman/Bowman. Here is what I do know for a fact:
George Bauman/Bowman was born in Germany, immigrated to the Colony of Pennsylvania in America, probably in the mid 1740's, locating in what afterwards became Berks County, Greenwich Township, Pennsylvania.
I have found "George Bauman" on several Passenger List's landing in Pennsylvania 1946 to 1749 from Rotterdam and Cowes England.
George had a son John Bowman born July 1, 1750 I an assuming in Berks County, Pa. Also I have found information that George was married to Barbara Keller, but can not prove that.
On October 16, 1765 his Naturalization Papers say: "George Bauman of Greenwich in the County of Berks being a Foreigner, and having inhabited and resided for a Space of Seven Years in His Majesty's Colonies in America, and not having been absent out of the same said Colonies in America, and for a longer time than Two Months at any one time during the said Seven Years."
George Bowman appears on the tax records in Pennsylvania foe the years 1754 to 1769 and there after his name is not found.
George moved his family from Berks County, Pennsylvania to Rockingham County, taken from Augusta County, Virginia about 1770 to 1771.
Court records show that George Bowman bought land from Andrew Witinglough, Hudlow, May 19, 1772, and conveyed it to John Bowman, b July 1, 1750 son of George, on May 2,1786.
The above property lies in the "Forest on Fort Run" which empties into the left band of the Shenandoah near Timberville, Rockingham County, Virginia and has been in The family still today.
George Bowman is presumed to have been buried at Rader's Lutheran Church Cemetery near Timberville, Virginia in one of the many unmarked graves in the central part of the old Cemetery.
In the private papers of John Bowman was found, by one of his descendants, a copy of the Certificate of Naturalization of George Bauman, the Immigrant. This Certificate was in the ownership on Mrs. Jesse L. Bowers, Penn Laird, Virginia. Mrs. Bowers gave a photostatic copy to Mrs. John S. Macy, who gave a copy to Mr. Leslie A. Miller.
I am trying to find who George is connected with from Germany. He had to have brothers or sisters or cousins just someone that is connected to George.
Thank you,
Gail
