Re: Part 38: Stephen Swain of Georgia
Mr. Swain, your research on the Swain is very impressive.I've read a lot of it and am only doing research for the Swain family.I'm trying to locate Preston and Elizabeth Swain (were both probably born to slaves; if not born into slavery themselves). They should have been born about 1860 or earlier.
Does your research list any of the slaves of your Swain family? In 1910 I've found Lizzie Swain , but not Preston. I know this is the right one though. The children are: Wesley, Rosy, Wiley, Gracie, Dred,Cleveland.
They are in Madison Co. Ga.
The first boys tend to have used the name John a lot so I think there's a good chance Preston may have used the name John Preston, or Preston John.I would also assume this Swain family belonged to a Swain (white family) in Ga.
I know from doing my own research that slaves births were extremely important to the owners and they listed the births, marriages , and deaths of their slaves in the family bible along with their own family.
Have you run across Preston or Elizabeth?
Thank you in advance.
Your info is great to read.
