I have a copy of some of the writings of George Washington which I had the librarian at Mount Vernon research for me."Abraham Swanger" is listed as one of his tenants in Berkeley County, Virginia (now Jefferson County, West Virginia).Abraham was, of course, Abraham Schwangau. The "ch" was obviously dropped. There are both Swangers and Swangos around.Abraham Swango (Schwangau, Swanger) married Ailsie Pyle in Wilmington Delaware's then Old Swede's church. The marriage is documented in the book "The Swango Family" 2002 Revision.Abraham is listed as a Revolutionary War Patriot in this book, but his line has been closed at the DAR because of lack of documentation.I have done exhaustive research but have not come up with any records that back up the book's claims that Abraham served in the "1st and 2nd Battalions in Frederick and Berkeley Counties, Virginia".The Abercrombie & Slatten books do not show him as a contributor of services or goods to the Revolutionary cause, nor are there any records I could find in the Library of Virginia.Does the Swango-Pyle marriage record show who Ailsie's father is?The bride had to have someone - a brother or father, usually, sign for her. There might be yet another Patriot in the Pyle family. Pyle also might be a family which goes way, way back in this country.
