Solomon Sweaney/Emma Stephens - MO
I know the surname is/was SWEANEY (as taught me by my Sweaney grandmother and her mother, Emma Stephens Sweaney).
However, it had a variety of spellings!
1880 Census for Marion, Jasper Co., MO - house 149 fam 147 shows:
SWINNEY, Solomon - m 29 - IN IN IN - laborer
Emma - f 20 - IN IN IN
Willy - m 2 - MO IN IN
Katy - f 11/12 - MO IN IN
By the 1900 census (Mineral Twp, Jasper Co, MO) I found Solomon and Emma Sweaney with daughters Alice, Lena, adopted son Oliver. This census said she had given birth to 4 children and 3 had survived. My reasoning, since Oliver was adopted, is the three surviving children are Alice (my grandma), Lena (Aunt Lena), AND either Willy or Katy who would have both been old enough to have left home by 1900.
Does anyone have a William Sweaney ("Willy") born in 1878 in Missouri OR a Katy (maiden name of Sweaney) born July 1879 among their Sweaneys?
I'm bleary-eyed from perusing census forms looking for Willy, Will, William...or Katheryn, Katherine, etc. both stll eluding me. Hope some as yet un-found relative is looking for this branch of the family!!
