Re: Leah Sylvester - Joseph Ward Marriage 1821
Cyrus Ward is my husband's (Howard), Great Great Grandfather and yes he was married to Mary Elizabeth Kulp. She was born in Pennsylvania and emigrated to LeSueur, Minnesota as a young girl with her parents, John and Mary Kulp. I have been unable to verify Cyrus and Mary's marriage date or location. I have a copy of a Diary of sorts written by Mary May Ward and continued by her daughter Phoebe which has been very helpful to me in my research. In this diary she states that she and her bother Orrin (my husband's great grandfather) were born in Freeport, ME in their grandfather's home.(I have not been able to verify this) In 1865 MN Census they appear back in Le Sueur, Mn.They moved to Lake Crystal MN around 1869 and to Kansas around 1870.Cyrus died either late 1871 or early 1872 in Kansas. We have been to Kansas and have his probate records.Mary, her children, her father and her brother Cyrus Kulp eventually returned to LeSueur, MN (by approx. 1875). Cyrus'parents are Leah Sylvester Ward and Joseph Ward. You can find Leah's family on familysearch.org going back to England in the 1600's. Her father was John Sylvester and her mother was Polly Merrill.I have not been able to verify Joseph Ward's parents but it does appear his father was Nehemiah Ward and his mother's first name may have been Mary.I am very interested to hear from you and discover your connection to my husband's family.
