Taggs of Hackney
I'm researching my great grandfather Edward Tagg born Hackney 17/09/1854 a bricklayer and his wife Jane (maiden name Allen) b.1858 in Hackney and their son (my grandfather) John (Jack) James Tagg born Hackney 11/03/1891.
Their other sons were Charles b.1876, Edward Thomas b.1878, James b.1897. Their daughters were Amelia b.1880, Eleanor b.1881 (Tottenham), Mary b.1884, Jane b.1886, Eliza b.1889, Kate b.1893 and Margaret b.1895. All but Eleanor was born in Hackney.
John James Tagg - Born 174 Rushmore Road, Lower Clapton, Parish of Hackney - 1891 Census calls him Jack.
1901 Census has them living at 10 Maiwand Road, Hackney and Jane a widower Jack/John Tagg had already left home.
Acting Bombardier (50612) John James Tagg, with 59th Battery, Royal Field Artillery won Distinguished Conduct Medal in France WW1. He worked with horses in Cumbria where he met and married Elizabeth Bragg in 1922. Moved to Barking then Southall where he died in 1958.
