Tagg family of Tagg's Island

I am looking for the Taggs from the Surrey area.My husband's great-great grandfather was a "boatsman to the Queen"I believe his name was Ernest or William.I think there is a Thomas in the family also.My husband's father was William Ernest Tagg married to Mabel Wilkins.my father-in-law's mother was a McDonald.the Wilkins are supposed to be part gypsy.The Taggs used to own Tagg's Island, a boat-making business, and a hotel on the island.The story is that the great-great grandfather gambled the island away in a card game.Anyone out there ever heard of any of these Tagg's?
