If you are having trouble finding information on Tammany - try looking for McTammany or McAtamany. My great great grandmother was Mary McAtamany Reilly. See chart below:
In discovering this information, I have seen this surname as McAtamany, McAtameny, McAtemny, McTamany, McTammy, McAlamany, Tammany, Tammny. It's possilbe that Mc was dropped off your surname. My McAtamany ancestors came to the US in 1834 and lived in the western Pa area, in Cambria County, Washington township from about 1850 thru 1910. Aside from one of her siblings being named Hugh, I have seen another Hugh McAtamany age 62 on the 1870 census for that township. Rosanna age 24, Bridget age 16, John age 11, Edward age 75 and Mary age 70 lived at that household. Rosanna was born in Ireland, the rest of those children were born in PA. I'm not sure if I have a connection with this group, but the name is so unusual, that I jotted their information down.
