Roland's Dau Tabitha md Philip G G Burford ca 1822 Tenn
This Tabitha long suspected to be the Tabitha, dau of Roland Tankersley/Clarissa Wade's who was born ca 1793 per Tankersley history...here are a few bits of information that would seem to circumstantially prove this supposition:
From: 1880 Great Register of Fresno County (Madera Precincts)
(a/o 4 Oct 1880)
"Name Age Birth Occupation Residence Registered Notes
Burford, Roland Tankersley 55 AL Farmer Crane Valley 1878, Sept 11"
Exerpt from March 18, 1893 edition of the Mariposa (Calif) Gazette...
"Death of R L Bufford (sic)...On Sat last were performed the rites of burial over Roland Tankersley Bufford (sic)...was born in Alabama 72 years ago...moved at early age to Tenn...thence to Arkansas. When...gold excitement begun...he...came by El Paso route and arrived here in 1850...to...what is now Freasno Co..."
Excerpt from: Sierra Star (Madera Co Calif):
"Caroline Newton wed R.T. "Tank" Burford. They first ranched near Raymond, then moved about three miles south of Fresno Flats, and finally farmed and operated a way station on the Wawona stage route above the Flats. With the formation of the U.S. Forest Service, Burford Station became the forest headquarters".
NOTE: My Burford family history shows that Roland Tankersley "Tank" Burford was b in 1823, first child of Phillip G G Burford and wife Tabitha Tankersley...interested in hearing from anyone interested in this Burford/Tankersley line.
