I stated that I would no longer post on genforum, however this is an email that I sent to Wicocomico-Nation Rootsweb.com about 6-7 years ago. I hope this reachs those of you that happen to be devout worshippers of DNA.
This will be on my tap-tico.com site.
It's been brought to my attention that some web sites are popping up concerning the Wicomcico, please be advised do not over step the bounds and infringe on the rights of the Wicocomico Indian Corporation and it's authorized articles of incorporation.
Five years before I had several rootsweb sites. In those days the manager of the sites had to donate to the cause.Today roots web is sponsored by the big genealogy company’s... those of us that sponsored the beginning of rootsweb were pushed aside. My hats off to all those that sponsored and helped rootsweb become independent.
However the reason I’m writing this is to place on line an email I sent to the WICOCOMICO-NATION-L@ROOTSWEB.COM ( this was one of the sites I sponsored) dated November 21, 20018.44 AM.Subject: “American Holocaust” by David Stannard.
“I have discussed this before on line, but not in depth. At the beginning or our Thanksgiving Holidays I feel it may be appropriate to bring it up at this time.
Most of are Euro-Native Americans and before discovery of our Native American roots, did not think to much of the Native American problems. Today I think most of are more aware of the situation and feel more tuned to what is happening with our Native American brothers and sisters.
I believe most of us made a personal , conscience decision when we joined the Tribe, but it should not stop there. Each and everyone one of us has the responsibility to learn the history of our tribe; read and read again. Not only about our tribe but the history of all our Native American brothers and sisters, where they were and where they are today. We have lost so many Native American Tribes since the arrival of the colonists, not only in Virginia , but throughout the entire country...just because they were different from the new comers to the New World.
I guess the one thing that bothers me more than anything is the constant reminder of the politicians that this country is made up of immigrants. (How about the Native Americans that have been in this country for at least 15,000 years) I’m aware of the immigrants settling in this country, the other half of my family tree is made up of old English Families such as; Scroggins, Dameron, Doggetts, Cockerham and many others. They were in line with all the others in stealing the Native Americans land; but just because they were my ancestors does not mean they were right. I still feel respect for them, but had to make a choice as to what I wanted to be known as.
Have you ever thought of....where would be today if the old world had not invaded our country. When the Cherokee were rounded up and forced to march to Oklahoma ( Trail of Tears) they had
their own alphabet, churches, schools, farms, and industry such as mills. That does not sound like untamed savages to me , but a people that was close to the land.
One our members , Steve Martin wrote to Russell Means ( a well known Native American Actor and active in AIM) concerning what we were doing in bringing our tribe back to life and that most of us were more European than Native American but had a strong Native American heritage. His response was ( can’t recall the exact words) that we continue to pursue our goal in bringing our tribe back to life, regardless the amount of Indian blood, but being Indian came from the heard and could contribute.
For our new members I would like to relate an incident in 1996 when I was in Holbrook AZ. I had volunteered to work at the Petrified Forest and had went to Holbrook for groceries. In the small shopping mall was a liquor store, unfortunately there were several Navajo Indian men in the trying to solicit money for alcoholic beverages. One of the men had approached a white women coming out a nearby restaurant and asked for money. The women started yelling at him; you drucken Indian get away from me and go back to where you came from.( A few other obscenities were passed)
Isn’t that ironic ? He is where he came from, the white women was the intruder.
It was hard to understand how this could happen today. If a person does not want to give money to a person, simply ignore them, but to spew forth the kind of trash from this immigrant to one of the first Americans was not called for.I felt ashamed for America .
I know that many of you will ask why I placed this on line, some of you will not agree with what Ihave said, but I have a reason.
Now that we are in the process of being recognized, we owe it our tribe and all Native Americans, an effortto bridge this deep seated resentment that still exists between the white community and native American. I’m not advocating that we roll over but to stand firm and educate ourselves and others the true history of what happened in this country, then and only then will the two races really feel comfortable with each other.
I would like to recommend a book for all our members. It may make some folks sick to read it, but it will give the reader an idea of what has been removed for our history books or glossed over so thatit can not be recognized.

Another bit of information: The 2000 census had a place on the form to identify themselves as “other”. The Native American population increased from a little over 2 million to over 4 million from 1990 to 2000. More and more Americans are beginning to reclaim their Native American heritage.
