I'm trying to give my father a special present this week as he turns 81. He wishes to find where his grandmother Abeline(Aberlain/Adeline) TARVER Baham is buried.I have been searching for over two yrs. now.He last saw her when he left for school, one day in the early 1930's, and never got to say goodby. She was a kind and gentle soul who helped him with his homework, and spoke softly. Supposedly, she had been a school teacher as a young woman and also helped her father out as a midwife.(He was thought to be a dr. during the Civel War)
My father recalls her getting senile and one of the Uncles came to pick her up and possibly brought her to Jackson since that's where old folks were taken when they become senile. However, I recently read a posting that a Rufus Tarver had holdings in Jackson,La. The unusual thing is that my father has a version of Rufus as his middle name.
At any rate this is the info I have collected. She was born in Amite Cty Miss.in 1850. If my records are correct her parents were Lott Tarver and Elizabeth Neal Tarver. In the 1860 Census in Amite Cty. Miss she is listed with siblings; Franklin 6, James 4, Anthony and Mary. In the1870 Census for Amite Cty Miss,, she is listed with my grgrandfather,as his spouse, but also has some of her siblings also James B. 14, Franklin 16, Mary F. 9, Jamison D. 8, and William Z. 6. These children are all listedas TARVERS. I know this is the correct family household because my grgandfather's half brother is also living in the household (a Beavers) Abeline was living in Amite, LA (not Miss. this time) in the late 1890's with Benjamin Baham, my grgrandfather(he was a minister)One of the Baptist Associations also has him listed in Amite, La. in the 1890s. Later in the 1910, and 1920 Census she is also listed with him.
I have found where Benjamin is buried in La. but she is not located in the cemetery.
So if anyone out there has some info about her, or even about the family in general, I'm sure he would be delighted.
My father related alot of family info to me at least 25 years ago and it has been fairly acurate.
I apologize for typos, it's late. Again, please email me if you even think you have a lead at; Brstars1@aol.com
We have checked with the Jackson State Hospital for death records, etc. and came up with nothing. We have also searched Cemetery records in Jackson, MS. since my father recalls that the uncle who picked her up lived in Picayune< Miss. I have also looked in Jackson Cty., Miss.
My father says the family was from Amite County Miss. or thereabout.
