Elias Taylors, Rev. War Soldiers from CT
In searching for an ancestor Elias Taylor who died in Orange Co., NY in 1798, I have acquired pension papers for two Elias Taylors who served in the Revolutionary War from Connecticut.
The first Elias Taylor was born in Glastonbury, CT.He enlisted in April 1778, served as a private in Captain Jonathan Wells's Company, Colonel Wolcott's Connecticut Regiment, and was discharged 1 Jan 1779.He lived in Glastonbury, CT until about 1786, then moved to Wethersfield, Hartford Co., CT for four years, then Sandisfield, Berkshire Co., MA and in 1812 moved to Houndsfield, Jefferson Co., NY.He died 12 Feb 1842.(Pension file S14642)
The second Elias Taylor was born 10 June 1753 in Danbury, Fairfield Co., CT.He enlisted March 1776 and served one month as a private in Capt. Eli Mygatt's Company, Colonel Joseph P. Cooke's Connecticut Regiment, and from July 1776, served two months under the same officers and was in the retreat from NY.He enlisted again and served from 10 June 1777, three and one-half months in Captain Ezra Starr's Company of Light Horse, under Colonel Beardsley in the Connecticut Troops.In 1783 he moved to Warren, Litchfield Co. CTHe had a brother Eleazer Taylor. (Pension File S17725).
