Winbark, (many other spellings of the name, including Winbeck),Boney was a Private in the North Carolina Militia during the Revolution. Your friend can first check the DAR Patriot Index to see if some one has established him as a qualifying ancestor. The Index is avialable at most large libraries, or the DAR will furnish a yes/no answer online if he is listed in their Index. I have seen some reference that his father, Jacob Boni/Boney was also an earlier member of the State Militia--- "Minute Men"--- and asa member of Capt. John Sampson's Company, responded to the Spanish Alarm at Wilmington, NC, on 9/4/1748. As such, Jacob would be a Colonial Soldier.
