Don Teague from Tom Bean,Texas
When my Grandmother died we found this newspaper clipping in her belongings. Can anyone help us find out more about our Teague family?Don Teague was born in Tom Bean, Tx in 1902.There were 12 children in the Teague family and all were normal except Don, born without legs. His handicap has never worried him. Early in life he learned to use his hands in place of the limbs nature denied him. He was graduated from high school, then took a post graduate course in accounting and bookkeeping and obtained employment in a bank when he was 19 years old. He was a traveling saleman for three years and has operated a chain of gas stations. He has been county treasurer.
The muscles in his arms are as taut as bands of steel and he can seat himself on any object that he can reach with his hands. Asked to pose for a picture he said sure and raised himself to the counter of his news stand four and a half feet high.
Mr Teague drives his own car, specially equipped for hand controls. He is a ardent lover of sports.
He is an amazing optimist with sparkling sense of humor. His ready retort to a sedy looking salesman who childed him about having his picture taken "full length" was "Well buddy, I promise you there'll be no frayed trousers at the heels."
Don sounds like an amazing person and I would love to know more about this side of my family. You can e-mail me at [email protected] or post to this forum.
