Re: Lanark Telfers (Baillie, Dalzell, Watson, Braidfoot)
It seems my great-great grandmother Chritina Telfer lived in Pettinain until 1917 when she died (age 89). She shows in successive census as (unmarried/single)living in the household of John and Agnes. In 1901 she is still there inwith a "lodger" named Robert Anderson. Robert Anderson shows on her death record in 1917 as witness and grandson (?). In the 1901 census there is a neighbouring household headed by John Rankine. A John Rankine shows in earleir census as a grandson living in the household of John and Agnes. The 1901 census also shows a George Telfer (age 63)living next door. One might guess that John Telfer's 7 Acre "croft" had been divided up.
The various census show a parade of grandchildren with various surnames living on and off with John and Agnes.
The census shows that in 1901 there were 444 Telfers living in Lanark(shire).
