Re: Lanark Telfers (Baillie, Dalzell, Watson, Braidfoot)
Those letters are a tremendous resource! As you demonstrate they really add life to the framework provided by register records.
Despite persons' concerns for Christina's health she lives all the way to 1917, and it does seem Robert Anderson must have taken good care of her.
My guess is that all the random grandchildren could have been from various sources given the very large families of Telfers. Premature death of parents, or simply that John and Agnes had space, could be one explanation. I have a similar situation in another branch of my tree (Drysdales of Temple). In any event it would seem Christina would have had a full life raising those children.
The 1901 census shows that John Rankine was a blacksmith.
My Grandfather (son of Agnes Waugh/Telfer) had sisters named Christina and Isabella. He named a daughter Isobel who named one of her daughters Christine. It is interesting to see the history behind these names as they pass from generation to generation.
