Re: Lanark Telfers (Baillie, Dalzell, Watson, Braidfoot)
Thanks, very ineresting entry. I looked up the death registration and the Register of Corrected Entries ("RCE"). I do not see an immediate link to the John Telfers in my/Martha's line.
The RCE record more or less confirms the same details. Therefore we are left wondering exactly how John met up with the train. One wonders if the pubs closed at 9:00 pm in Lochleven on Thursday nights in the late 1800s.....
The RCE entry starts of with:
"The following Report or result of a Precognition has been received, touching the Death of John Telfer Registered under No.32 in the Register Book of Deaths for the year 1897:-
[Same details as the death register then set out]
Certified by John Bogie, P.-F.,Procurator-Fiscal's Office,
Kinross, 4th December, 1897.
Of note: Between 1880 and 1900 there were 606 Telfer deaths recorded across all the parishes in the records. Of these, 42 were named John.
