Continuing saga-Templeton DNA Studies
In 1754,Rachel Templeton (c1730-1800) married Thomas Richard Piles in St. John's Parish, Prince Georges Co, MD. She wasSUPPOSEDLY daughter of a David Templeton (b. 1705 Scotland) . Hoping toget to Prince George's Co. Historical Society library to search for marriage record which hopefully would documentwho her parents were. Her first two children, John & Henry (b. 1755/57)are in St. John's Parish records. In 1761 Rachel & Richard moved toCameron Parish, Loudon Co, VA. Later kids are in Cameron Parish records.Theyleft Loudon Co. c1769 & show up c1770 on Swan Creek, Bedford (Now Campbell) Co, VA close to where a John Templeton (b. c1745) was locatedJohn later settled on Rocky Creek, Iredell Co, NC where he sold a large piece of his property to Rachel's husband
There are also claims that Rachel was d/o David's brother, Samuel Templeton (b. Scotland c1700). There is much confusion regarding the children of the two Templetons - David born 1705 Scotland and Samuel b. c1700 Scotland. With the close proximity of Rachel and husband Thos. R. Piles to John Templeton in Bedford Co. in the same time frame & a statement that This. R. bought the Rocky Creek property from a cousin I felt it waspossible if not probable that Rachel & John could be siblings or cousins -but I could find no documention of a family link.
However, Sept. 2012 I received confirmation of a genetic link from autosomal DNA results thatidentified me, a Rocky Creek, Iredell Co. cousin of John as a "5th to 8th cousin" of Rachel. This is the first documented clue that the Rocky Cr. Templetons may have descended from MD. Templetons.Would appreciate hearing info on any Templetons in Cecil Co. or Prince Georges Co, MD in late 1600s/early 1700s.
