While I do not actually research the TETER family I have run into them quite often in researching a group migration to Illinois led by my ancestor Reverend David Badgley in 1797 since that group included 22 members of the extended Teter family. If you go to LDS online and search Caleb Teter (father of Samuel Lincoln Teter) and just keep clicking onto the father so that you keep going back a generation you will end up with a line that goes Caleb b 1833 Pendleton CO WV, Johnson, Joel, Phillip, George, and Hans. There is some confusion about who is the immigrant as Hans and George may be the same person. In my notes on TETER I have a "Hans Jorg Dieter, later Teter, b 7 June 1699 Schwargern, Germany, arrived at Philadelphia on the Mollye, signed Oath of Allegiance on 30 September 1727". I have also that "Hans Jorg Dieter aka George Teter came to America in the late 1720's, m Maria Margaretha Luttman, had 9 children, 4 of whom married children of Johann Justus 'Yost' Henckel".I believe there is a great deal of research on the Teter family and someone who is expert in it may be able to correct me.One of the men who came to Illinois with Badgley in 1797 was John Teter s/o Phillip Teter and Susannah Henckel, which is the same parentage LDS gives for the Joel in the above descendancy so they seem to be brothers. The matriarch of the group who came to Illinois in 1797 was Rebecca (Henckel) Teter widow of Paul Teter b 1732, and Paul was s/o Hans Jorg.LDS has this line still being born in Pendleton CO (which was VA until 1863 but since then is WV) up through Caleb, I don't know about Samuel---it sounds as if some of them came out later to Illinois. But definitely this is the same family. They were German Baptist Brethren.
