Elijah Levi Therrell, after Civil War
I am descended from Elijah and Betsy Ann Therrell of Mississippi, through their son Benjamin (my great-grandfather).Elijah and his family lived in Clarke County when the Civil War began, and appear to have moved to Rankin County during the war.
Benjamin had two brothers, Reuben and Elijah who served in the Civil War, in the 8th Mississippi Infantry, Co. G.Reuben died in a Union prison camp from wounds he received at Murfreesboro. The military paper trail for Elijah appears to end in April 1864.
I initially thought that Elijah might also have died in the war after April 1864, since I could never find any mention of him in any post-war records.
However, now I have located a Google search engine reference to "Clarke Co, MS Marriage Book" that shows an Elijah Therrell who married in Clarke County in October 1869.
Does anyone have a key to resolving this mystery?Could this be the same Elijah Therrell who "disappeared" from military records during the war?Who are his descendants?
