Irene, I have had a "gut" feeling that John & William were indeed brothers, however I could not prove it.I had not seen the 1783 land claim for William previously. There seemed to be too many families listed on census and tax lists to have all come from one sibling.I descend from John down through the list of Johns, but have tried to trace other branches.
You mention William being 16 or 17, do you have William the son of John as being born 1767?I have also seen a date of 1795.If you go by the way John's will lists the children, William would be the oldest and the 1767 date more likely.
I rely mostly on records on the internet as our library here has very little data for research. In fact, I haven't found a whole lot on the Thixton family. Most of my line down through John Henry Thixton know very little about the family.Several of us have put our bits and pieces together and have been able to prove, as much as possible without DNA, our line.I descend through a female, so I cannot pursue the DNA.
Thanks for your reply and assistance.
