Hi Lynn,
Thanks much for your response! This is a loose end of a long line from North Carolina.Emeline and sister Melissa (married to Thomas brothers) are listed in the 1870 census of Jackson County AL.For some reason I do not have the 1870 report here...but can get a copy later.Melissa married Henry McAnally in the 1870s and by 1880 she is listed in Marshall County as head of household with children George W. Thomas age 18, William R. Thomas age 16 and Thomas A. McAnally age 9.Note children from both husbands....I think in 1880 they lived just over the river on the east side of the Tennessee River in an area near now Bucks Pocket State Park... the town was called Hillian's Store.

Note Melissa is the wife of Emery..also click on the letters pertaining to his death in the civil war.
Now.....just how do/might you connect?
