Hi Evelyn,
It seems to me you have this all sorted out, and I was wondering how you managed to do so.You indicate that there is your David Thomas and then the famous David Thomas, but both men are looking like they've gotten combined into one, being the son of Owen & Eleanor Thomas.
Your David Thomas was born in 1726, per his prayerbook.
The biography on Robert Franklin Bartlett says (in part):
His wife, Sarah Nickols Bartlett, was a native of Loudoun county, Virginia, her birth occurring there January 7, 1819, and she died March 27. 1856. Her parents were Nathan and Sarah (Thomas) Nickols and her father was of English lineage). Her maternal grandparents were Owen and Martha (Davis) Thomas, both of Welsh extraction, and both born in the state of Pennsylvania, the former on May 12, 1754. The father of Owen Thomas was David Thomas, born at London Tract, Pennsylvania, August 16, 1726. He was educated at Hopewell, New Jersey, and in Brown University, of Providence, Rhode Island, where in 1769 the degree of Master of Arts was conferred upon him. He was a Baptist minister and his ecclesiastical duties brought him to Piedmont Valley in 1765 or previous to that date. A champion of civil and religious liberty he suffered severe persecutions. He was a contemporary of Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson and was held by both of these patriots and statesmen in high esteem, and as their senior he was venerated by them as the friend of liberty and justice. The death of this worthy man occurred in Jessamine county, Kentucky, July 5, 1796. David Thomas was the son of David Thomas senior who left his native country, Wales, in 1700, and upon arriving in America located at Guinead, Bucks county, Pennsylvania. His son, David Jr., the preacher and patriot, was one of the Revoltionary heroes and through him and through Owen Thomas, his grandson, who was a soldier in the Revolution, the subject is elegible to membership in that august organization, the Sons of the American Revolution.
(end of extraction)
Which says that Owen and Martha (Davis) Thomas were Welsh, born in PA, and David Thomas is the father of Owen (b. 12 May 1754), he being born at London Tract, PA on 16 Aug 1726.Then he appears to have the same education as the "other" David Thomas, and died 5 July 1796 in Jessamine Co., KY.The father of David Thomas was David Thomas, Sr.
-----------
The "other" David Thomas:
Born August 16, 1732, at London Tract, Pennsylvania 1750 Ordained a minister 1751 Missionary from Philadelphia Baptist Association to Virginia 1755 Master of Arts" degree from Rhode Island College, now Brown University 1762 David Thomas formed the Broad Run Church at Farquier Co., VA and Catharine Martin Shreve was with him. People traveled 50 to 100 miles to hear him preach 1763 He was in Culpepper, VA to preach but the crowds were very rude so he moves to Orange Co., VA where he was more successful...Thomas returned to Berkeley County in 1788 and became the minister of Mill Creek Church after the death of the church's pastor and Thomas' close friend, JOHN GARRARD. Thomas remained at Mill Creek until 1796 when he moved to Kentucky. The move was occasioned by trouble at the church. According to Semple the church initially rejoiced in Thomas' ministry, but eventually "some of the members becoming wise in their own conceit took it into their fancy that Thomas preached false doctrine" Thomas evidently became discouraged by the controversy and left Virginia for Kentucky.

You said in one of your posts you had the baptism records for the children of Owen & Eleanor Thomas, which helped you sort all this out.Would you mind sharing what you found?
Thank you for any light you can shed on this!
