John Thomas 1726-1765 last lived in Orange Co, NC
I am looking for anyone who has new info on the John Thomas family who lived in Orange Co, NC. in the 1750's & 1760's. This would be Orange County as of 1765 whichcovered the current day Orange, Caswell, Person, Durham and Alamance Counties.
John was born abt 1726 and died in 1765 per his Will of Orange County, NC Will Book-A, page 41.
The Will: APR 1765, Orange County, NC will Book-A, page 41; John Thomas, son-in-law of Benjamin Morrow, deceased, writes Will and presumably dies on Flat river in Orange Co, NC. Trusted friend William Jay, Sr. named executor. Will proved May 1766.
John Thomas married Elizabeth Morrow, proved daughter of Benjamin and Ann Morrow through Benjamin's death in 1758 and Will. They were the Morrows of Flat River as written about in NC.
Benjamin Morrow is known to have settled on the North Fork of the Flat River in the early 1750s. He died there about 1758. After that time the records including petition signatures, deeds, and tax records confirm that there were several generations of Morrows living in and around the North and South Forks of the Flat River near Richland Spring Creek and Deep Creek. This area of Old Orange County would become Caswell Co. in 1777, and then in 1792 became Person County. Families they are associated and intermarried with were the Jay, Cadell, Hargis, Scoggins, Suttle, and Winstead families.
John and Elizabeth (Morrow)Thomas had three children mentioned in their Will: daughter Mary Thomas, son John Thomas born abt 1757 and died JUL 1806 in Greenville Co, SC., and son James Thomas.
Looking for any info to find the parents of John Thomas 1726-1765 and where this family may have been before Orange Co/Granville Co, NC.
