Courtney/Duncan/Askin in Stafford and Fauquier Co.'s
I'm looking for my ancestor Elzay Courtney born 1783 in Fauquier Co., VA. In 1790, he was listed as an orphan and was bound out to Angus Cameron a lessee of Leeds Manor of "The Fairfax Propretary"
In 1806 Elzay married Sarah Haley, daughter of John Haley and, I believe, Peggy Jett.
After much research, I think Elzay was a grandson of James Courtney and Christian Humphrey.??
From Stacy Cox' research on ancestry.com, I find that Stephen Threlkeld and Ann Duncan had a son Daniel who married Lucy Duncan. Their daughter Elizabeth married John Askin and they had a son named William Courtney Askin. William Courtney Askin married Jane Jett.
Does anyone know if John Askin might have been known also as John Ashton or Axton?
Elzay Courtney and Sarah Haley named their only son William???
In Fleming Co., KY from the census records for 1810, 1820, 1839 and 1840, the names Threlkeld, Humphrey(s), Williams,
Bishop, Anderson, Metcalfe, Payne, Bentely, Collins, Jackson, McCord, Spencer, Barton, and many more that I know came from Fauquier Co.
On the 1820 census for Fleming Co., KY there was an Elijah Courtney listed. I know that a John Courtney (son of James and Christian?) had a son named Elijah. the name was messed up on his will and looked like Eliga. Also, John Courtney and Mary Dozier had a son named Elijah.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.
