Elijah and Thomas Threlkeld, Henry Co, VA 1779-81
I am beginning to research Thomas Threlkeld of Henry Co, Va who was sold 100 acres of Snow Creek, Henry Co, Va property by Benjamin Cook (Sr), who was residing at the time in Craven Co, SC, Camden District. Thomas Threlkeld also was paid, in 1786, from Benjamin Cook's Henry Co, Va estate. Benj Cook died in 1781, according to an affidavit by his son, Benjamin Cook, Jr, also of Snow Creek, Henry Co, VA, later Franklin Co in 1786 county change. Thomas was
appointed grain commissioner in Henry Co around the same period. Census data, tax lists have so far been unhelpful. I am awaiting Library of Va reels.
Elijah Threlkeld m. Elizabeth Cook Nov 14, 1781 in Henry Co, Va.
I am at the beginning of my research, and have thus drawn no conclusions about their origins. My theory, based on circumstantial evidence at present, is that Elizabeth Cook was the dau of Benj Cook Sr who moved in late 1778 or early 1779 to SC. Elijah and Thomas are recurrent names associated with the Stafford/Culpeper Threlkeld families. The oft quoted Hansford Threlkeld book, I have found, is often in error, with many specious arguments for family linkages. I want the truth.
If anyone on this board is acquainted with the Henry County, VA Threlkeld family, and to where Elijah and Elizabeth seemed to disappear after their marriage in Henry Co Va, please email me. I would love to share info.
I am not a Threlkeld researcher, and cannot help anyone else with the family.
