Re: L. L., W. S.,Miles Strickland, Seymour, Seymour Scott Thurber
I am distantly connected to this family. My 2ggrandmother Louisa Pope Polley was born in Oswegatchie NY in 1842.Her mother was Eleanor Susannah Pohlman and her father was Horatio Gates Pope. Louisa's grandparents were Susannah Thurber and Jacob Pohlman and ggrandparents Joseph Thurber and Sarah Kelsey.
So Winfield Scott Thurber is, I believe, a second cousin of Louisa Pope Polley.Interestingly they both lived in Chicago for a time and I wonder if they knew each other there.Louisa moved to Chicago about 1890 or so after her husband died.
Winfield Scott Thurber had two art galleries in Chicago, the last one in the Fine Arts Building Annex on Michigan Avenue. The interior was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.Unfortunately this building was torn down and replaced by a parking garage (what else) a few years before I found the connection. Some day I will have to find out what happened to the interior of the art gallery. You can find photos of the gallery online.
I would be interested in finding out what happened to the descendants of W.S. Thurber.
