Tiedemann Castle & Derek Jeter
I recently stumbled upon the story of "Tiedemann Castle" in Greenwood Lake (Orange County), New York which was built in 1903 by the Gudewill family. In 1952, the property was purchased for $15,000 by John Tiedemann, a resident of Jersey City, NJ.John may have had up to 13 children; I'm not clear on that point. In any case, John and his wife Julia adopted William "Sonny" Connors in the 1950s because his parents had died and the Tiedemanns knew him from the community.Sonny later went on to marry Dorothy Tiedeman.Sonny and Dorothy Tiedeman-Connors had a daughter--another Dorothy who in turn married Charles Jeter.Yup, you guessed it . . . Dorothy Connors and Charles Jeter eventually had a child named Derek Jeter, the famous NY Yankee short stop.
Which leads us back to the the Tiedemann Castle. In 2003 the castle was sold to Jeter for $425,000, it being the home of his grandfather, Sonny Connors, the adopted son of John and Julia Tiedemann.
PLEASE NOTE THAT I HAVE NOT FULLY RESEARCHED THE ABOVE GENEALOGY, SO BEFORE ADDING THIS TO YOUR TREES, I'D SUGGEST A COMPLETE RE-EVAL FOR ACCURACY.
If any one has any info whatsoever on NICHOLAS TIEDEMANN(see post of 3 -27-10), can you please send it along?Thank you.
