1917 obit of (Jo)Hannah Tierney O'Brien, daughter of Lawrence & Margaret Tierney

From the Gouverneur Northern Tribune of Wednesday, Nov 21, 1917.............................The death of Mrs. Hannah O'Brien, one of Gouverneur's well known residents, occurred at her home in Rowley street this morning at three o'clock, following an illness of only two days.

Mrs O'Brien was 69 years old and was born in Oxbow June 5, 1848, the daughter of the late Lawrence and Margaret Tierney, who were early settlers of that district.Her education was received in the rural schools and on August 21, 1874, whe was married to James O'Brien at Canton.Mr. O'Brien died in 1881.


She was a member of the St. James Catholic church and the Sacred Heart society of this village and was one of the active workers in those societies.Besides her daughter, Miss Jennie O'Brien, of this village, she is survived by one brother, John J. Tierney of Rossie, and two sisters, Mrs. John H. Mahoney and Miss Sarah Tierney, both of this village.

The funeral will be held from St. James church Saturday morning at ten o'clock, Rev. Father MF. Gallivan officiating at a requiem high mass.burial will be made in Riverside cemetery.
