OTHER TILLINGHAST HISTORY #4
In general, the Tillinghasts are recognized as descending from King Edward I (born 1239 at Westminster Abby)of England. He was King from 1272 to 1307. The Tillinghasts see their bloodline as comming down through Edward's 2nd wife, Prince Marguerte, the daughter of the French King, Philip III. Thus a French bloodline traceable back to the Merovignian Kings of France and if they haven't noticed, all the way back to the brother of Jesus, the Christ, James. But that's another story that cannot be expounded here because I would have to prove that the Joseph of Arimethia is also this brother of Jesus, James. What I want to show here is that the bloodline of both of King Edward's 1st and 2nd wives(Eleanor of Provence and Marguerite of France) were joined in 1816 with the birth of Elias Henry Tillinghast in Centerville,S.C. (Greenville today). Elias's mother was Frances Wilton Earle, daughter of Col. Elias Earle and Frances Wilton Robinson, a descendant of Eleanor of Provence. Elias's father was Daniel Hendren Tillinghast, a descendant of the Tillinghast line of Marguerite. So any lines from Elias Henry Tillinghast have this bloodline connection to both wives of King Edward I, of England. Elias died during the American Civil War in 1863. While he had been in the Confederate Army with his son, Joseph Wilton Tillinghast, tracing Elias has been difficult. He must have been killed in some battle or scermish because his son, Joseph, picked up several of his pay checks after he died. I found a request for a pension brought by a Lawyer on behalf of his 2nd wife but nothing of the outcome. Perhaps someone in South Carolina or Georgia could take up the research on this point.
