Dear Sir:Just recently found your entries on the internet Tillman Family Forum.I have been working for several years on this particular Tillman family.I come down from Christopher to came to US in 1630's and settled in VA.Married Ruth Devonshire and had children Roger and George (I believe he might have had a son Gideon as well). George b 1663ish and married Mary House and died 1756 in Lawrenceville, Brunswick VA is my downline. His son George b. 1705 who married Judith Mason and died 1780 in Granville NC is my downline. They had son William Tillman who was born in 1736-39 in VA and married Mary Farrow iss my line. Here it gets sticky because two of their daughters Nancy Tillman who married William Thompson and Penelope Tillman who married James Carithers had Amos Carithers who married Elizabeth Eleanor Thompson (yes they were first cousins and now we know some of the problems with this line).I believe that Roger changed the name from Tilghman to Tillman when he became an adult.Gideon Tilghman was born in 1652 in Accomac Co., VA and moved to Maryland where his entire family stayed until some of them moved to Georgia after the Rev. War.He kept the name Tilghman while he lived in Maryland in Somerset Co where he married Margaret Manax and also where he died in 1720.
Christopher Tilghman came from Faversham Hundred, Selling, Kent, Eng and was a triplet.I found his baptism papers and he and his brothers were baptised in Kent very early because they thought that his one brother was soon to die which in fact did happen.
I am looking for any proofs for my William, George, and George to prove marriages.I am also looking for parentage of Mary Farrow, Judith Mason and Mary House.Hopefully you might be able to help me in some way.I am currently working on a Colonial Dames application for this family.I did a DAR supplemental for William Tillman which was accepted. The DAR, UDC, DUV, and Colonial Dames will not accept the Stephen Tillman book because it is not sourced and places are wrong in that book. Thanks and would love to see what you have on my particular lines.
