Thomas, Daniel and Nathan Tilman in Amherst County
Wondered if anyone knows who these three Tilman men were and where they went?
I am researching the family of Jospeh Martin who was born in Albemarle County, VA, moved to Wilson County, TN and died in Crawford County, Arkansas. He named his first (known) son Thomas Tilman Martin, second (known) son William Moon Martin. We have no real idea who his father was.DNA from his descendants match the family of John Martin around Ballenger's Creek in Albemarle County who married Nancy Ann? Tooley/Tuley.
In the Wilson County tax lists starting 1804 is Joseph Martin and Daniel Tilman.Daniel Tilman probably married thedaughter of Drury Perry, his neighbor in Wilson County, her name was Rebecca Perry, he moved to Missouri.
In searching Albemarle and the surrounding counties tax lists, we have found first in 1796 Tax List A Amherst County Nathan Tilmon, he is only there that year with one taxable white male.In 1800 Thomas Tilmon appears, List A one white taxable male.Thomas Tilman is on List A in 1801, one taxable white male and in 1802 Thomas Tilmen and Daniel Tilmen are on List A both with 1 taxable male.In 1803 Thomas and Daniel Tilman are on the list and Thomas now has 3 slaves that he did not previously have. The tax lists that we have access to end at that time, so I don't know if they continued to be on the tax lists or not but a Joseph Martin who was on the list in prior years is not there in 1803.So I wonder if he is the Joseph Martin in Wilson County.
Records show a Thomas Tilman purchased land in Davidson County, TN in 1786(part of which became Wilson County), wondered if this could be how they came by the land they both had in Wilson County because I can find no deed where they bought the land they were taxed on.
