Cathy,
I can find no marital tie between Carnes Tinnin and your Smith family.The Carnes Tinnin who witnessed the 1809 Orange Co. marriage between Joseph Smith and Hannah Clark was a son of Revolutionary War soldier Robert Tinnin (wife unknown), who was son of Carnes Tinnin (wife Margart) who came to the Orange Co. NC before the county was formed in 1752.
I was hoping someone could provide a clue to the link you were seeking, but since no one has, here are some facts about this Carnes Tinnin:
Carnes was born about 1783 in Orange Co. NC and died 1816 in nearby Granville Co.:
17 Jan 1815 (Granville DB W-390) William SHEPHARD of Orange Co. deed to Carnes TINNIN of Granville (only recorded deed found for Carnes).
Carns TINNIN Granville Co. NC will 24 Feb 1816 (pr. Nov 1816 WB 7-662) wife Nancy;
Mention of a Bond on Wm. BUTLER (£87 sixteen shillings eleven pence Virgn. Currency);
Mention profits due him from Estate of Isaac BUTLER (by the will of sd. BUTLER) and from the Estate of Phillip BULLOCK Decd.
"my father Robert TINNIN" (to get Negro boy Peter when wife dies or marries),
Half all other assets to wife until her death or marriage, and half to:
"all my brothers and Sisters", bro Robert (extra $50).
Exec. Blunt COOPER & John TEVILLE;/S/ Carns Tinnin
wit. Henry B. LAWRENCE & Clement WILLIAMS.
At probate, Nov Court, Blunt COOPER qualified as Executor.
27 Feb 1822 (Granville DB 1-172)Thomas TINNIN, James CLARK, Joseph CLARK, Joseph ANDREWS and Catlet TINNIN, all of Orange Co. NC release their rights to Clement WILKINS of Granville Co. in land left to them and other heirs by the will of Carnes TINNIN, decd. Late of Granville Co.
Heirs James CLARK had married Jane Tinnin in 1807, and Joseph CLARK had married Elenor Tinnin in 1808.Joseph ANDREWS had to have actually referred to Joseph ANDERSON, who married Margaret Tinnin in 1800.Thomas and Catlet TINNIN were Carnes’ brothers (in addition to David and Robert Jr.).Carnes also had a sister Mary, who was single in Feb. 1822, but married Joseph Faucett in Nov. 1822.I can find no marital tie to the Clement Wilkins who obtained their rights to the deceased Carnes’ property.
2 Mar 1822 (Granville DB 1-183) Blount COOPER of Wake Co. NC was executor for the estate of Carnes TINNINGS, decd., late of Granville Co.(Widow Nancy either died or remarried prior to these 1822 transactions.)
It is apparent from the will that Carnes and Nancy had no children.
