Was Richard TOLES a descendant of James E. TOLES,d bef 1879, husband of Sarah Maria VERNOOY,b1818,Waring, Ulster, NY,d 1879,Elmira, Chemung, NY? I believe their son was Wallace TOLES, d before 1885, husband of Estella M. CHEIDESTER, d abt 1926, Elmira, Chemung Co,NY. Their grandson would be Claude E. TOLES, b abt 1876,Elmira, Chemung CO, NY, d aft 1901. Perhaps the cartoonist Tom TOLES of Buffalo, NY is related to Claude E. TOLES, who was also a newspaper cartoonist in Elmira and in Baltimore, MD.
