Re: George, Nina (Dubois) Tomes, New York
I appreciate it is nearly a year since you posted your message, but I may be able to help a bit, although the details I have about the family members you mention are rather sparse.I live in Somerset, in South West England and my hobby is researching the family history and genealogy of TOMES families. The TOMES family that you give details of, can be traced back to 1702 in the village of Campden in Gloucestershire, England. The American Branch starts with a Francis TOMES who came to the USA (New York) in 1815. One of Francis's children was the Rev Charles A. TOMES (1814-57) and whose youngest child was George M. TOMES (B ?, died 1921).He married Jennie E. LADD (1854-1920, of St Louis, MO) and their eldest child (of 5) was the George TOMES who married Nina DU BOIS that you mention.
All I know about this George is that he died in 1937 (thanks for the info he was born in 1885) and he & Nina had the two children you mention, Margaret ('Margot') and Jacqueline.
Margaret was born 10 Aug 1917, Yonkers, NY , was a 'well known children's book illustrator' and died (unmarried, I believe) 25 Jun 1991, New York City.
Jaccqueline married 'B. STEY' and has 3 children & 4 grandchildren. That is all I know.
Hope this helps.
