TOMKINSONS of Liverpool, Lancashire, England.
I am searching for details of the Tomkinson family from Liverpool, Lancashire, England.
Francis and Emma Tomkinson's parents were Samuel and Emma Tomkinson. The girls were born on 13th Jan, 1845 and 28th Sept, 1846 respectively. They were both baptized at St Andrews, Liverpool, Lanchashire. At the time of the 1851 Census, both sisters 6 and 4 years of age, were living with the maternal maiden Aunt, Mary Ellen Worthington at 29 Myrtle Street, Liverpool, Lancashire, England. There were two servants in residence.I believe that Frances and Emma's father was in the Military and the he and his wife Emma, were at some outpost of the British Empire at the time of the 1851 Census.
In 1871, 24 year old Emma Tomkinson, was now married to Capt.Edward Tolfrey Christie and they are living at Claremont Lodge in Portsea, where Edward an Army Officer, is a Deputy at the Commissionary Control Depot at Portsea, Hampshire, England.Sadly, in the Sept quarter of 1871, Emma died in child birth. She gave birth to a daughter, who was named Emma, after her mother and maternal grandmother. It appears that baby Emma survived.
I am hoping that someone can shed some light on this Tomkinson family and also the Worthingtons, and if there is any knowledge of what happened to baby Emma Christie, as Edward her father, would not have been able to care for her, for not long after Emma's birth he was posted away from England, maybe to Ireland.
