Have you seen Evelyn Duke Brandenberger, "The Duke Family" (privately published, 1989)?She gives Mary Tomlin Turner, wife of John Turner, as dau. of Matthew Tomlin who left will dated 7 March 1684, Isle of Wight Co., VA, Will and Deed Book II, 1661-1719, p.264.Mrs. Brandenberger stated that this Matthew Tomlin was a son of "Martha Tomlin Widdowe" who in 1634 was granted a new patent to land she had owned prior to 1625 on Nansemond River (Brandenberger, 418)."She had at least two sons, Matthew and John Tomlin who acquired land in the immediate area" [ibid., land in what became Isle of Wight County].I am not sure whether this point has been proven to the full satisfaction of the Order of FFV; that is, that this Martha Tomlin was the proven mother of this Matthew and John Tomlin.Brandenberger included segments on the allied families of Turner, Green, Birchett, Lundy and others connected to the Isle of Wight Harrises, descendants of Thomas Harris who d.1788, for whom see John A. Brayton, "The Five Thomas Harrises of Isle of Wight County, Virginia" (Winston-Salem, NC: privately published, 1995).
